film-ballet
premiere: 11.11. 2016 - F.X.Šalda Theatre in Liberec
After more than twenty years, Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet returns to the Šaldova Theatre. The ballet company of the F. X. Shalda Ballet Company is commemorating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. "My conception of Romeo and Juliet bears the subtitle film-ballet. As with my previous adaptations of great ballets, I had to adapt the libretto to our chamber ensemble. Therefore, I replaced some minor but important characters with video projections. However, the audience will not miss the crowd scenes in the Verona square or the duels between the rival Capulets and Montagues." Nor will the audience miss the story of the Verona lovers retold using neo-classical ballet technique.
The title roles will be played by the ensemble members - British Annabel Pearce and Australian Mischa Hall. The costumes are designed by Aleš Valášek, the set is by Richard Pešek Jr. The projections were prepared by Tomáš Moravec and Pavel Hejret. Fencing duels were arranged by Karel Basák.
