Ultra-minimal-ballet

Ultra-minimal-ballet ( UMB ) is an independent association of professional dancers founded by Alena Pešková. As the name (UMB) suggests, the intention of the association is to achieve maximum effectiveness on the audience by using minimal/minimalistic means. It doesn't mind minimal space, minimalist music, minimal number of dancers... on the contrary, on this basis it builds and presents to the viewer contemporary dance theatre with all its attributes, often in a strange way, so that it reveals to the viewer various theatrical and choreographic practices.

UMB had its debut in 2008 in the Blues Cellar with the project 5 m2 in collaboration with the young composer Petr Wajsar. Alena Pešková's choreography was performed by National Theatre dancers Zuzana Šimáková and Olexander Kysil together with the author.

Gabriela Vermelho, composer, singer, actress and quintet player, prepared the music for another UMB premiere - the dance horror Jessie and Morgiana, which resulted in a wider Thalia Award nomination for Alena Pešková (Morgiana): Petra Padrianová (David Campos company - Barcelona), Marek Kašparovský (National Theatre Prague), Martin Gebauer (State Opera Prague), Miroslav Hradil (J.K. Tyl Theatre) and Klára Jelínková (National Theatre Prague). The premiere took place at the Malostranská Beseda. The performance was later adapted for the North Bohemian Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The next premiere of the UMB Dance Theatre was The Little Match Girl. The music was again composed by Gabriele Vermelho and this time UMB cooperated with the Dance Conservatory of the Capital City of Prague.

Julie Petanová (the first Czech woman to study at the Royal Ballet School, now the Norwegian National Ballet) excelled in the title role, and the production also featured: Tomáš Kopecký, Alena Pešková, Martin Dvořák and students of the TK hl. The performance premiered at the theatre in Slany and was then successfully performed/performed again at the Malostranská Beseda in Advent time.

UMB also performs at festivals and openings.

Now a new dance docudrama is in the pipeline. Inspired by the incredible life story of...Vlasta.
