Jižní Svéráz 2026 – Festival premiere
An immersive dance horror experience, a site-specific, performative walk
Mr Kopfrkingl’s horror story, set at the start of the Second World War, takes on a new – and perhaps even more horrifying – dimension in this adaptation. The audience moves freely through the story; they can chant at a demonstration in Prague in defence of the republic, or they can dance at the Casino with members of the NSDAP, whilst one floor below the beautiful Lakmé prepares dinner… and someone keeps dropping a metal bar… On the same route, but at a different time, the atmosphere grows increasingly tense. And no one has any idea whether a dangerous individual might be moving right among us.
„The Cremator, staged in Český Krumlov, is an unexpectedly ambitious production in which Alena Pešková has brilliantly succeeded in making use of the gallery spaces there and translating all the layers of the original work into a theatrical form. Whilst the film version of *The Cremator* leaves a lasting impression ‚for life‘, this theatre production will also remain in the memory for a long time…“ „Pešková succeeds in conveying the atmosphere of the original work in all its nuances – the horror elements as well as the absurd, grotesque and mystical aspects.“
