Director's word:
Dear and dear viewers,
if I were to answer the question how I understood, or did not understand, Lorca's Blood Wedding, I would answer like this:
Well, I grasped it a bit surrealistically, since this is how Lorca and his "cronies" were "marked". It was as if I was consciously working with the unconscious...It was as if I had read The Blood Wedding in the evening, something about Lorca, recalled my hard lessons with "echt" flamenco-dancers, watched Woody's "Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona", remembered how I "partied" on a trip in Spain, randomly opened Unamuno - Lorca's contemporary - on page 41: "In that Spain of ours...the priests rule the women, and the women the men...and then the countryside, the countryside!, that still lives in feudalism!"...and then the preface on page 10, a reference to Kirkegaard : "Reason and emotional life, truth and consolation, cannot completely annihilate each other. The necessity and inevitability of these two forces, however, make man a tragic being, who will not extricate himself from his fate either by answering the questions of reason or by fulfilling the emotional life...". Well, before going to bed, she doused that heavy philosophy with a litre of Sangria...while recalling the words of a character in one of Alfred de Musset's novels... "I would like to live in a time when honour is more than life:" ( and I say to myself "..when honour is more than comfort and..and... life is more than comfort")... I wake up in the morning, I cook a cafe con puff- carachio, I feel great about it all, just a bit of chaos...and then Gábina Vermelho sneaks home a little bit Brechtian - whom I repeated the afternoon before - and she comments on the whole thing, modernizes it, plays director under my direction, maybe even author...well, I'm clear, I hope!, that she will be nice to the audience, although I don't describe much, but I experience...
Have a nice evening
Alena Pešková
